The former Regional Transit Authority of Central Oklahoma unveiled its new name, ONE Transit, at its Feb. 11 meeting. The rebrand is meant to encompasses the three cities — Oklahoma City, Norman and Edmond — coming together to create commuter and light rail in the metro area.

The trust paid $200,000 to a public relations firm that specializes in transportation marketing based in Wisconsin to aid with the rebrand ahead of a potential three-city sales tax election in 2027.

While a total cost for the project has yet to be finalized, state law caps the potential tax proposal at a rate of 2 percent. No other tax revenue sources from member cities can be used to fund the project, which would largely be backed by federal grants.

David Chapman, one of the directors representing the City of Edmond on ONE Transit's board, explained how the tri-city election would work.

"The vote will be one vote. All three city councils will have to vote to bring the vote to their city, but once each city puts it on the ballot it will be one election on the same day and be one result," Chapman told NonDoc. "All three cities will be in or all will be out. It is ONE Transit System as the new branding represents. If the vote passes, all three cities will have one transit system and all three cities will continue to pay the sales tax supporting the system."
